L\u2019atoll est compos\u00e9 d\u2019une fascinante constellation de <i>motu<\/i>, des \u00eelots qui ne repr\u00e9sentent qu\u2019un pour cent de l\u2019ensemble. Les squelettes de carbonate de calcium, issus des organismes du r\u00e9cif, composent la barri\u00e8re de corail, qui prot\u00e8ge \u00e0 la fois les motu de l'impact des vagues mais g\u00e9n\u00e8re aussi des s\u00e9diments, v\u00e9ritable fondation des \u00eelots. Les sols des motu sont par ailleurs nourris de nutriments marins transport\u00e9s par les oiseaux. Ils constituent ainsi un terrain fertile pour une flore et une faune uniques au monde.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">G\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e par l\u2019accumulation de l\u2019eau de pluie infiltr\u00e9e dans le sous-sol, une lentille d'eau douce se forme sous la surface des motu, flottant sur la masse d\u2019eau de mer sal\u00e9e plus dense. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un programme d'\u00e9radication men\u00e9 en 2020, les rats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9limin\u00e9s de Tetiaroa, permettant \u00e0 la faune indig\u00e8ne de prosp\u00e9rer \u00e0 nouveau.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dans le ciel, dix esp\u00e8ces d'oiseaux marins nichent \u00e0 Tetiaroa, chacune occupant un espace a\u00e9rien et des zones de p\u00eache sp\u00e9cifiques. Tetiaroa accueille une importante colonie reproductrice d'aigrettes sacr\u00e9es des r\u00e9cifs du Pacifique, une esp\u00e8ce indig\u00e8ne.
