Ces navigateurs de haute mer, munis d'armes \u00e0 feu et d'outils m\u00e9talliques, \u00e9taient consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme des d\u00e9tenteurs de pouvoirs magiques, craints et v\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9s par les hautes sph\u00e8res de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9. <em>ari'i, <\/em>Chefs polyn\u00e9siens.
